Turning aspiring artists into Masters

About

About Me (John) – Art Coach, Artist, and Mentor
With over a decade of experience as a professional artist and art instructor, I specialize in guiding artists on their journey to mastery with colored pencils. My background includes years of teaching in local art spaces and online platforms, where I’ve had the privilege of supporting artists at all stages of their creative journeys, from beginners who are rediscovering their love for art to those focused on advancing their professional skills. Through my academy and my private community, I combine practical skill-building with personal coaching to help artists grow in their technique, confidence, and artistic vision.

My Coaching Philosophy
In my coaching sessions, I believe in an individualized, results-focused approach. Each artist has unique goals and challenges, so my teaching blends structure with flexibility. Whether we’re focusing on refining portrait features, using color to evoke depth, or navigating business questions for those exploring a career in art, my aim is to create an environment of support and growth. I’m dedicated to fostering confidence and helping each artist take their skills to the next level—at a pace that’s comfortable, with methods that are effective.
Through both one-on-one and group sessions, my coaching is interactive and adaptive, responding to each artist's needs and ambitions. Together, we break down techniques, overcome creative hurdles, and develop a practical approach that fits seamlessly into your own artistic style. My goal is not only to share techniques but to empower you to make informed choices in your work, bringing out your full potential as an artist.

Testimonials

John presents a very calm demeanor and one knows immediately that it is going to be okay. Our artist journeys have followed similar paths, and I felt he understood me, where I am, and could recommend what steps I needed to take. He did not come across as pushy or insistent. He was very encouraging, respectful, positive, and supportive.
He gave me his full attention and took time before our meeting to learn about me and my artwork. He took an interest in me as a person and an artist. He was very open in sharing his experiences and providing insight that was specific to me.

It was great to have a one-to-one session and really go into detail about my drawing and questions that I had about teeth which is a particular subject that is difficult

I am Maria, recently retired, always like to draw as a hobby but did not take it seriously until now. I had no previous experience with any course. However, the online capabilities make it convenient; I really appreciate all the video feedback that John gave, the format is unique and the comments have been very helpful. John is very pleasant to work with. I like his approach of bringing out the personal style of the student and not confining the student to a particular way of drawing.
