Engineers, teachers, and parents all help create the future. Engineers create our built environment and our communication systems, making new connections possible. Teachers educate the next generation, teaching them how to think through problems and create solutions. Parents, however, are the most important group of people creating the future of society. As an engineer and as a teacher, I was confident in how to have the best influence on built environments and on students. As a mom, I was terrified. I didn't know how to be a good mother; I only knew that there were critical ways that I did not want to echo my childhood.

Now that my three children are in their 20s, living out their dreams, I know that I was a good mother. Of course I made many mistakes and there were rough patches - every relationship has them - but I also apologized and repaired the relationships. I have a strong relationship with each of my children, who choose to invite me into their lives. They also choose to be close friends with each other. That's how I know that I was a good mother - I lived into my vision of adult children who choose to invite me, their father, and each other into their lives. 

In addition to my personal experience as a mom, I have studied many areas that are critical to parenting with confidence, including child development, neurobiology, communication, emotional intelligence, polyvagal theory, and intergenerational patterns. In addition, I studied traumatology under renowned expert Rev. Dr. Shannon Michael Pater. I believe that science, in particular neuroscience, can teach us how to make positive changes in our lives, increasing our joy and peace through understanding how our bodies, our relationships, and our communities work. My goal as a parenting coach is to help clients become fantastic parents.
