Meet the Coach: Rhonda L. Smith
Founder & Board-Certified Coach
Hello! I'm Rhonda L. Smith, but you can call me Coach Rhonda!
Welcome to Nechama Coaching Services!
When I started Nechama, I was intentional about choosing its name. Nechama is Hebrew for comfort, solace, or compassion, and those words reflect the heart of what I wanted my coaching practice to represent. I believe people deserve support that is compassionate, honest, grounded, and respectful of where they are in life. That's the philosophy behind Coaching with Compassion.
My heart has always been to help people become whole spiritually, mentally, personally, and professionally. I believe real change starts from within, and sometimes that requires us to have some honest conversations with ourselves about where we are, how we got there, and what needs to change.
I've lived long enough to know that life doesn't always go according to plan. Sometimes we find ourselves dealing with circumstances we never anticipated, making decisions we never thought we'd have to make, or trying to figure out how to move forward when things haven't turned out the way we expected. I've had my share of those moments, too. My personal experiences, along with my professional training, have shaped how I approach coaching and how I relate to the people I serve.
I also understand that people carry things they don't always feel comfortable talking about. Disappointment, grief, emotional pain, burnout, uncertainty, and the responsibility of trying to keep everything together while caring for everyone else can take a toll. Sometimes people just need a place where they can be honest about what they're dealing with without feeling embarrassed, dismissed, or judged. That's the kind of environment I want to provide through Nechama.
A little about my background.
I'm an ordained clergy member, Certified Christian Life Coach, Certified Professional Life Coach, and Board Certified Master Mental Health Coach. I'm also certified in Mental Health First Aid and a member of the Christian Leaders Alliance (CLA).
My educational background includes an Associate of Arts in Paralegal Studies, a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies, a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and a Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management.
In addition to my coaching and ministry experience, I bring nearly 30 years of experience in human resources and higher education.
Throughout my career, I've worked with people from different backgrounds, professions, and stages of life. One thing I've learned is that you never really know everything someone is carrying. People have responsibilities, personal struggles, dreams, disappointments, and challenges that aren't always visible to those around them.
Those experiences have taught me the importance of listening, understanding, and recognizing that everyone doesn't need the same kind of support.
So, what can you expect when working with me?
First, I'm compassionate, but I'm also going to be honest with you. I believe in encouragement, but I also believe in accountability. Sometimes we need someone to remind us of what we're capable of, and other times we need someone who cares enough to challenge our thinking, our choices, or the things we've allowed to keep us stuck. I'm not here to tell you what to do with your life. My role is to help you sort through your thoughts, recognize patterns, identify your goals, and develop practical steps toward moving forward.
I believe faith and emotional wellness can work together in healthy and meaningful ways. For those seeking faith-based coaching, biblical principles, prayer, and spiritual reflection can be part of our work together. I also offer non-faith-based coaching because I recognize that everyone comes with different beliefs, experiences, and needs. Regardless of which approach you choose, you can expect the same level of compassion, respect, honesty, and commitment.
And while I take coaching seriously, I don't believe every conversation has to feel formal or uncomfortable. I enjoy genuine conversation, appreciate a good laugh, and believe we can address serious matters without losing the human connection.
My work extends beyond individual coaching
In addition to individual and group coaching, I partner with businesses, ministries, clergy, and other organizations to support personal and professional development, leadership growth, mental health awareness, and the integration of coaching principles into organizational and ministry settings.
I have a particular heart for those who spend so much of their time caring for, leading, and supporting others that they sometimes neglect themselves in the process. Whether you're serving in ministry, leading an organization, managing a career, caring for your family, or trying to balance several responsibilities at once, your well-being matters, too.
At the heart of it all
I genuinely care about the people I serve. You're not just another appointment on my calendar. You're a person with a story, responsibilities, challenges, hopes, and goals that matter.
I can't promise that every challenge will disappear or that every answer will come easily. What I can offer is a compassionate coaching relationship where you can be honest about where you are, receive encouragement and accountability, and work toward the changes you want to make.
Whether you're navigating a difficult season, seeking spiritual or personal growth, facing a professional transition, or simply trying to figure out what's next, I'd welcome the opportunity to work with you.
Let's have a conversation and see if Nechama Coaching Services is a good fit for you.
