Shon & Carla Lawrence

As Trauma-Informed Marriage & Relationship Coaches, we combine practical relationship tools, honest conversations, and a married couple's perspective to help couples recognize what's happening beneath the conflict and respond to one another differently.

About

Love Brought You Together. But Life, Pain & Unresolved Patterns Can Affect How You Love Each Other.

Maybe you keep having the same argument in different ways. One of you shuts down while the other pushes harder to be heard. You love each other, but lately you feel more like roommates than partners. Trust has been damaged. Communication feels difficult.

Or maybe nothing is necessarily wrong, but you've realized you want to become more intentional about the relationship you're building together.

Here's what we want you to know: You don't have to wait until your relationship is falling apart to ask for support.

We're Shon and Carla Lawrence, and through Lawrence Life Coaching, we help couples slow down, recognize the patterns affecting their relationship, and have the real conversations necessary to create meaningful change.

Our approach combines trauma-informed insight, practical relationship tools, and a married couple's perspective to help you better understand yourselves, one another, and the relationship you're creating together.

Because sometimes what looks like a communication problem is connected to something deeper, such as an experience, a protective response, an old wound, a fear of rejection, or a need to feel heard, chosen, respected, and understood.

When you begin to recognize the pattern, you can begin to respond differently. And that's where change can start. We help couples move from repeating the pattern to understanding it.

We Show Committed Couples How To...

  • Communicate with greater clarity, honesty, and intention.
  • Recognize unhealthy or unproductive relationship patterns.
  • Understand how past experiences may be affecting present-day reactions.
  • Navigate conflict without losing connection.
  • Rebuild trust after relational hurt or betrayal.
  • Strengthen emotional and physical intimacy.
  • Create healthier boundaries and expectations.
  • Become more intentional about the relationship they are building together.

Lawrence Life Coaching Mission

Our mission is to help couples cultivate healthier, more intentional relationships rooted in honest communication, mutual respect, personal accountability, emotional connection, and continued growth.

We believe healthy relationships require more than love. They require two people who are willing to remain curious about one another, examine their own patterns, communicate honestly, and intentionally protect the connection they're building together.

Couples Coaching May Be Right For You If...

  • You keep having the same argument without reaching a real resolution.
  • Communication often turns into defensiveness, shutting down, or misunderstanding.
  • You feel emotionally disconnected from one another.
  • You love each other, but know something in the relationship needs to change.
  • Trust has been damaged, and you're trying to determine how to move forward.
  • You notice past hurt or previous relationship experiences affecting your current relationship.
  • You want to strengthen intimacy and emotional connection.
  • You're preparing for marriage and want to build a healthier foundation.
  • Your relationship is doing well, and you want to be intentional about keeping it that way.

You don't have to be in crisis to invest in your relationship.

Sometimes the strongest thing a couple can do is recognize a pattern before it becomes a permanent way of relating to one another.

Infidelity & Trust Recovery
Betrayal can change the way two people see one another, themselves, and the relationship they thought they understood. Our coaching provides supportive, nonjudgmental guidance for couples who are navigating the impact of infidelity or broken trust and are willing to explore what moving forward may require. Together, we help you identify the patterns and relationship dynamics that need attention, strengthen communication, establish clearer expectations, and begin the intentional work of rebuilding trust. Healing after betrayal is not about pretending it didn't happen.
It's about honestly addressing what happened and becoming intentional about what happens next. Explore Trust Recovery Coaching

We don't coach from a pedestal, and we don't pretend to have a perfect marriage.

We're a married couple who understand that loving someone and knowing how to navigate a healthy relationship are not always the same thing.

We've had to examine our own communication patterns, become more aware of the ways past experiences shaped our responses, learn how to listen differently, and become more intentional about protecting our connection.
Many of the tools, conversations, and practices that strengthened our own relationship helped shape the work we now do with couples.

As Trauma-Informed Marriage & Relationship Coaches, we understand that people don't enter relationships as blank slates. You bring your experiences.
Your beliefs about love. Your communication habits. Your fears. Your expectations. Your protective behaviors. And so does your partner.

Our role is to help you slow down long enough to recognize what's showing up between you and develop practical tools for responding to one another differently.

Your Relationship is Unique, and Your Coaching Sessions Should Reflect That

No two couples have the same story. That's why our coaching is not built around a one-size-fits-all script. We take time to understand your relationship, the patterns you're noticing, the challenges you're navigating, and what you both hope to create moving forward.

From there, we provide reflective guidance, practical relationship tools, and accountability designed around your unique goals as a couple. We won't ask you to perform perfectly. We will invite you to be honest. To become curious. To take accountability. And to practice new ways of communicating, connecting, and responding to one another. Because awareness is important.
But relationships change when awareness becomes intentional action.

You Can Love Each Other And Still Need New Tools

Your relationship doesn't have to stay stuck in the same argument, the same disconnection, or the same cycle. And you don't have to wait until you've exhausted every option before asking for support. If you're both willing to have honest conversations, examine the patterns affecting your relationship, and become more intentional about how you move forward together, we'd be honored to support you.

Testimonials

Although we ended up going our separate ways, working with The Lawrence's helped us get clear on what we wanted, what we both were and were not willing to do, and concluding that too much damage had been done for us to move forward in our relationship. We would like to add that Coach Shon and Coach C were absolutely wonderful. They asked us questions that caused us to think deeply and reflect on our lives in relation to who we are now, what our needs are now, etc. To some, this may seem bittersweet, but we ran our course as a couple,e and today we are still friends, which may not have been possible if we didn't have a mature couple guiding us through the process.

- Carolyn Waters (South Carolina)

Coming into our sessions, we had countless unresolved issues, and the Lawrences helped us to stop treating the symptoms and get to the root of the matter. Doing so has led to a healthier and more refreshing marriage. As we are now on a maintenance plan with Coach Shon and Coach Carla, we highly recommend this as an option for couples going forward. Having ongoing support, accountability, and a space to process what happened and choose healthy responses has been highly beneficial to our marriage. We were at the end of our rope, and the Lawrences handed us a lifeline, and for that we will be eternally grateful.

- Mary and Janet Alborne (Houston, Texas)

My partner and I come from two completely different cultural backgrounds, and for most of our relationship, we have not been on the same page. That was until we connected with Coach Shon and Coach C. Meeting them has revived our relationship in a way that we can't begin to describe. We literally brought all of our questions, concerns, fears, and worries and laid them on the table, and they helped us not only navigate through them but also how to apply the proper language to what we were carrying. The Lawrences not only help guide you on your journey, but they also educate you along the way. This helped us not only gain clarity on what we were doing, but also why and how to change it.

- Teshana and Lyrica Jones (Los Angeles, California)

This was our first time trying relationship coaching, and Coach Shon and Coach C made us feel comfortable. During our sessions, we both felt heard and understood. What we appreciate both is how unbiased they both are, which has helped us tremendously. Having another couple who have been where we were and to guide us out of a dark place into a healthier space was hard work, but we are grateful that we had help along the way.

- Sharon London (Orlando, Florida)

Book with Shon when you need practical life guidance, relationship support, accountability, help communicating more effectively, or a grounded male perspective.

Book a couples session with both of us when you and your partner want support from two coaches who bring different perspectives while working together toward the same goal: helping you build a healthier and more intentional relationship.
What can I expect during a coaching session?
Your session will be private, supportive, honest, and focused on your specific needs. We will discuss what is currently happening, identify patterns or challenges that may be keeping you stuck, and help you create practical next steps.

Our sessions are not about judging, blaming, or telling you how to live your life. We provide a safe space for reflection, clarity, accountability, and meaningful change.

Depending on your needs, you may also receive exercises, reflection questions, communication tools, or action steps to complete between sessions.
Is coaching the same as therapy?
No. Coaching and therapy can both be valuable, but they serve different purposes.

Therapy is provided by a licensed mental health professional and may include diagnosing and treating mental health conditions, processing severe trauma, or providing clinical care.

Coaching focuses on personal growth, relationship development, goal setting, communication, accountability, and helping you move forward with greater clarity and intention.

We do not diagnose or treat mental health conditions. Coaching may be used alongside therapy, but it is not a replacement for professional mental health treatment.
Do you work with all individuals and couples?
Yes. Lawrence Life Coaching welcomes individuals and couples from diverse backgrounds, identities, relationship structures, faith experiences, and life circumstances.

We understand that every person and relationship has a unique story. Our coaching environment is inclusive, judgment-free, and grounded in respect, honesty, emotional safety, and personal responsibility.

You do not have to have everything figured out before booking. You simply need to be willing to show up, be honest, and participate in the process.
