About

Kenny Anderson is a nationally certified mental health counselor with over forty years of experience in the field. On January 25, 2013, he was appointed Multicultural Affairs Officer for the City of Huntsville by Mayor Tommy Battle after spending the past 16 years at Calhoun Community College, most recently as Dean of the Humanities and Social Sciences Division.
He retired from this role in October 2024.

Kenny owns two small businesses. As, President of Maximum Life Enhancement, a business management and educational consulting firm specializing in leadership and employee development training, and he speaks nationally at conferences, schools, churches, and other venues.

Kenny is also Executive Director of Leadership Empowerment Enterprise, a 501(c)3 that focuses on professional development, adult mentoring and philanthropy. Pathways to Purpose is a life coaching initiative dedicated to helping individuals align their personal and professional journeys with clarity, intention, and meaningful impact.

Kenny’s commitment to education is clear as he launched five academic scholarships at four higher education institutions designed to support students who desire to achieve academic success.

The scholarships are:
the ‘Jack & Annie Anderson 2nd Chance Scholarship’ (Calhoun Community College Foundation), the ‘212 Community Service Scholarship’ (Oakwood University), the Mother Earnestine Fletcher Tibbs Memorial Scholarship (AAMU), the Dr. Spivey-Brown Excellence Fund (Oakwood University) and the Providing Access through Transformative Education (P.A.T.H.) Endowed Scholarship (Drake State Community & Technical College.

Since 1990, he has been the host/producer of a live, weekly radio talk show called 2nd Chance broadcast every Sunday on WJOU, 90.1 FM, Oakwood University’s radio station @ 2pm CST). The show can be heard online at wjou.org and live streaming on YouTube and Facebook at Praise 90.1 FM.

Kenny is a community bridge builder who has written as a Community Columnist for the Huntsville Times and received numerous awards and recognitions for over three decades of community service.

He has professional affiliations with the National Board of Certified Counselors, American Psychological Association, 100 Black Men, Greater Huntsville Chapter and serves on the boards of Partnership for a Drug-Free Community, Habitat for Humanity of the River Valley and The Plantrician Project.

Kenny is married to Sonya (Tibbs) Anderson, a Branch Chief for the Army Contracting Command in the Express & Strategic Services Division.
