Future Path Advising

We help students and families navigate post–high school decisions with clarity, confidence, and care.

About

Founded by Corey Ellis, a college and career counselor with experience in higher education admissions, HR recruiting, and secondary education, the business was built to support families who feel uncertain or overwhelmed by the college planning process. Future Path Advising emphasizes personal fit over a one-size-fits-all approach, guiding students toward academic, career, and life paths that align with who they are, not just what looks impressive on paper. Through ethical guidance, personalized planning, and strong parent–student support, the business helps families make informed decisions without unnecessary stress.

Testimonials

“I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the invaluable support and guidance you provided during my daughter’s college application process. Your expertise, patience, and dedication made a significant difference in navigating this important journey.
From helping with selecting the right colleges and refining application materials to providing insightful feedback on essays and ensuring deadlines were met, your assistance was much appreciated. Your encouragement and professional advice gave my daughter the confidence to present her best self in college applications.”

“We have used Corey Ellis for both of our daughters' college search and application process. Corey was able to help narrow down and choose which schools to apply for and walked us through the application process. My daughters are very different in what they were looking for and Corey was able to customize the experience for each. The best part of the process was Corey's assistance with the writing components of each application and helping them stand out with interesting topics and life experiences. I plan to use the services again when my youngest starts his search in 2 years."

"Thank you for your collegiate guidance with our son. We found having you part of the team allowed him someone to partner with through this process that was not his parents and could provide an unbiased opinion/feedback in areas of interest. With time, patience and encouragement, [he] narrowed down his school selection…As a family, we are happy he is in a position where he has choices. We appreciate the support you provided throughout this process and would highly recommend you.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an independent college counselor?
Think of an independent college counselor as a personal guide and project manager for the college application journey. While your student's school counselor is an essential resource, they are often responsible for hundreds of students. I work with a small number of students, allowing me to provide deeply personalized attention. I help families stay organized, reduce stress, and help students present their most authentic and compelling selves in their applications.
When is the best time to start working with a college counselor?
There’s no single "right" time, but the earlier, the better! While I offer comprehensive packages for seniors, many families choose to start during the summer before junior year. This allows us to be more strategic with course selection, extracurricular choices, and summer planning. That said, if your student is a rising senior, don't worry—it is absolutely not too late! We can jump right in with a targeted plan to get everything done.
What kinds of students do you work with?
I work with a wide range of students and my approach is always the same: to help them find colleges where they will be happy, challenged, and successful. The most important thing is a student's willingness to engage in the process of self-discovery.

How do you help with college essays?
My process involves helping students find meaningful stories that only they can tell. We'll work together to brainstorm ideas, structure a compelling narrative, and refine their writing until their unique voice shines through.
