A Better Force

We are storytellers and disrupters who empower you to use your voice to build a better world

About

We are Saamiya and Sarah Seraj, a pair of sisters and BIPOC coaches who will help you build the skill to navigate your personal challenges, while also showing how your issues tie into the bigger systemic injustices we see in the world.

A system that never addresses the why behind a harm never actually contains the harm itself.”

This quote from Miriam Kaba forms the essence of the coaching that we do here at A Better Force, and that is guiding you on your personal and professional development journey while being cognizant of systemic issues like racism, colonization, and capitalism that forms the root of most of our modern society’s dysfunction.

What that looks like in our sessions is while talking about issues like low-confidence, anxiety, or perfectionism, we also end up discussing intergenerational trauma or racial violence that has affected your families and communities. We move forward on your journey of personal growth, not just by discussing strategies, but also by exploring your histories, systems, and relationships to understand the roots of present day issues.

Testimonials

I have been doing weekly coaching sessions with Saamiya since 2021. I struggle with chronic illness, ADHD and other life problems that keep derailing me. Sessions have helped me navigate these issues more effectively by breaking down overwhelming situations into manageable pieces to sort out one at a time. I originally started sessions to create structure for ADHD and manageable goals around chronic illness. Medication therapies did not help long term. Coaching and counseling type therapies helped me immensely over time. She made personalized goal sheets and helped me sort my thoughts so I could be more concise with my feelings.

Saamiya is very compassionate, a great listener, and very in tune with her clients. Her tailored approach cut straight through to what I needed, and she made it very easy to discuss the heart of my issues. Over the course of our sessions, I learned how to lift the wall of fear and make major strides towards what I truly wanted, not what others wanted for me.

The team at A Better Force is truly committed to creating strategic, emotionally intelligent, compassionate, educational conversations around the much-needed topics of equity, diversity, inclusion, and leadership development. They are leaders in the true sense of the word: guiding folks towards a more positive and healthy vision for work, life, community, and civil society.

My first experience with A Better Force was a workshop they presented about redefining what success looks like. I appreciated how engaging they were with presenting the material and I took a ton of notes because I learned so many new things. At the end of the workshop, I learned that they host a free virtual book club each month. The books are all written by women of color and A Better Force does an excellent job writing discussion questions that go beyond a surface-level review of the book. They have worked hard to create a safe space to discuss important issues like race, gender, national identity, etc. and I always leave book club feeling like I’ve heard a unique perspective on an issue I hadn’t previously considered. They have also had several authors join our virtual book club for a Q&A session, which was really cool and brought the books to life even more. I highly recommend attending a workshop or book club meeting, or both!

It was a pleasure working with Saamiya and our sessions have helped me in ways I couldn’t even imagine. I very much look forward to working with her again in the future.

A Better Force have crafted very thoughtful and meaningful line-up of workshops with diverse and very relatable range of topics. I attended the Redefining Success workshop earlier this year. Through the activities designed in this workshop, I was able to contextualize how my time and efforts were contributing to a personal priority & how to set up meaningful new goals based on values important to me. The workshop provided a well-designed worksheet and engaged the attendees with thought provoking questions, with everyone sharing insights at the end of the section. By sharing these thoughts, we were able to recognize what we can do to feel successful in areas of life which are important to us. I loved this experience and would definitely recommend this workshop to anyone who feels overwhelmed and needing some introspection.
